Some Crimson With Your Jewels?

"The Jewels of Versailles"
After many trips to Paris and years of obsession with Versailles and 17th century French décor, I wanted to introduce my audience to the world inside my mind—a world of beautiful chaos. As a gown designer, I am an artist. I paint my dreams with ribbons of silk as they flash inside my mind on hourglass shaped screens. Stepping into Versailles for the third time last spring, I found myself yearning to try it on and wear it out—and so with my Versailles 2008 collection, I did just that.

The Jewels of Versailles is by far one of the simplest dresses I've ever made. It was created with a basic exterior which gets increasingly more embellished and detailed towards the ends of the train and into the underside of the bustle.

I made it with the intention of symbolizing the “Jewels of Versailles” in the sense that while the jewels/treasures/beauties of Versailles are so grand and elaborate, they are concealed within the walls of a wildly humble exterior. Although the outside of the palace is large and quite beautiful, it cannot even begin to compare with what lies within. The actual design idea for the train on this gown was inspired by that classic dress Audrey Hepburn wore in the film “Sabrina”.

Classic films featuring timeless beauties, has always served as a reliable and tasteful source of inspiration (Edith Head--need I say more?).
